Commentary on Daniel - Epilogue

Summary

We have seen that The Book of Daniel is divided into twelve chapters which are themselves dealing with separate phases of the timings of the Babylonian systems or Empires and their rule of the world under the god of this world and the Religious system he invented to undermine the nation of Israel and the tribe of Judah.

The text shows that it is God who determines ruler ship and power. It is He as the One True God demands loyalty and fidelity in all aspects of the faith.

As we saw the first Element or chapter dealt with the captivity of Judah and the selection and movement of the princes of Judah in line with the Biblical prophecies. They were tested as to their faith and the keeping of the Laws of God which commenced with the tests of the Food Laws and the commandments as they applied to their loyalty to the God of the Bible.

Chapter 2 dealt with the establishment of the time frame of the remainder of the age over the six Empires from the Babylonian (gold), Medo-Persian (silver); the Greek (bronze) and the Roman (iron). All these Empires drew their influence from the Babylonian systems and the religious influences that emerges from there and which had spread around the world but which were to develop into the world systems until the time of the end. They would be destroyed by Messiah at his coming with the Heavenly Host at the end of this age.

Daniel cannot be understood apart from the other Bible texts and specifically the prophecies work in conjunction with the Book of Ezekiel and follows on from the prophecies of Isaiah concerning the Messiah and the Plan of Salvation (No. 001A). Also the prophecy of Pharaoh’s Broken Arms, when viewed with the Book of Daniel, shows the sheer magnitude of the system from 605 BCE to 1997 CE and the beginning of the final Empire of the Beast ending this Age in 2027 CE (cf. Fall of Egypt Part I (No. 036)  and Fall of Egypt Part II: Wars of the End (No. 036_2)).

Ezekiel explains the division of the kings of the North and the South and the beginning of the two struggling kingdoms and sources of power and conflict over the age. The prophecy of Daniel Chapter 3 shows that the underlying conflict between the servants of the God of this earth, symbolized by the Chaldeans, and the servants of the One True God, who was symbolized by the Jews and their loyalty to Him. Israel had already been sent into captivity under the Assyrians in 722 BCE. At the root of this conflict was the idolatry that symbolized the root cause of sin, which was the worship of any other God than He who was the One True God.  He was Eloah or Elaha/Elahh who was Ha Elohim - The God who is Father of all and the Creator. The word “sin” is derived from this worship of the Moon God Sin of the Babylonians whose worship runs contrary to the Laws of God (L1).

In this second test Shadrach, Meshach and Abed’Nego were tested and they were cast, by decree of the King, into the fiery furnace and were saved and brought out of there by an angel of the Lord in the sight of the king of Babylon.

By this act they were elevated in the sight of the King and in the sight of all men and became rulers of the area of Babylon under Daniel who had been previously elevated by explaining the dream of Chapter 2 and its meaning.

Chapter 4 deals with the vision of the Seven Times and ties Daniel into the sequence of Ezekiel.  Both these prophecies were sealed until the time of the end and they cannot be understood without the others.  The sequence of the Empires of Chapter 2 were to commence with the Babylonian system from the Battle of Carchemish in 605 BCE over two forty year periods to the invasion of Egypt by Cambyses in 525 BCE, and which was to last for 2520 years and culminate in the period of the Eighty years from 1916 CE to the end of the Time of the Gentiles in 1996/7 CE and which saw the final period from 1997-2027 at the end of the 120th Jubilee in Atonement 2027. This was exactly 40 Jubilees or 2000 years from the declaration of the Acceptable Year of the Lord in 27 CE. And the end of the 6000 years from the expulsion of Adam from Eden and the appointment of Satan as the god of this world from the expulsion, beginning the 6000 years of his rule from 3974 BCE, thirty years after Adam’s creation in 4004 BCE.  The declaration began the Third or Last Phase of the Age which began the Spiritual Temple of God from 70 CE as prophesied from Daniel chapter 9:24-26.

It was only from this time of Christ and the formation of the church and then the fall of the Roman Empire that we could proceed to the Fifth and Sixth Empires of the Feet of iron and miry clay from 590 CE to 1850 CE and then on into the 20th Century to the Time of Jacob’s Trouble and the end phase of the eighty years culminating in the Empire of the Ten Toes of iron and miry clay. The final Sixth Empire of the Ten Toes will be crushed by Messiah and the Loyal Host over the Last Sabbath cycle of the 120th Jubilee of this Age. The iron and miry clay signifies that it had the iron of the Roman system but it was broken into the political disfunction of the nations and that remained even under the Sixth Empire of the Beast system.

Daniel was not concerned with the prophecy of Messiah. That had been given through Isaiah. Nor was it concerned with the prophecy of the Warnings of the Last Days (No. 044) and the placement of Israel and the destruction of the Last Days, as that has been given through the prophet Jeremiah (4:15-27). Daniel was concerned solely with the establishment of the Temple of God and Construction of the Physical Temple and the destruction of the Physical Temple and its replacement with the Spiritual Temple in 70 CE, which had been formed from the Sacrifice of Messiah as a human in 30 CE as foretold by Isaiah Chapter 53. The destruction and replacement is the prophetic focus of Daniel 9:24-26ff. and only ends with the return of the Messiah with the Loyal Host at the end as foretold in Chapter 12.

Chapter 5 dealt with the transfer of power from the Babylonian Empire to the Medo-Persian Empire.  The final occasion of offence was due to the sacrilege of Belshazzar misusing the gold and silver vessels of the Temple at a banquet.  However, his father Nabonidas, who ruled conjointly with him, had re-established worship of the Moon God Sin and had placed his daughter as High Priestess of the Cult to the West of Babylon. This was the final stage of the Babylonians and they were given to the Medes and Persians in succession as the Second Empire of silver.

The prophecy of the restoration of Israel

The Line of David was given a princess of the Persians in marriage more or less following on from the prophecies of Esther (F017) and the extension into the last days as Purim in the Last Days (F017B) cf. also David and the Exilarchs to the House of Windsor (No. 067).

It is thus obvious that the royal house of the Persians was favourably disposed to the Jews and that house extended into the Medes with Darius the Mede whose mother was a Persian and sister of Cyrus.

It was by that connection that the Persians had issued the decree for the Restoration of Jerusalem and the Temple under Cyrus. The period of construction extended down to Darius II, the Persian, and to Artaxerxes II for the Restoration under Ezra and Nehemiah (cf. Sign of Jonah and the History of the Reconstruction of the Temple (No. 013)).

The extension into the Last Days was prophesied also through the prophets Habakkuk (F035) and Haggai (F037). Jerusalem was retaken by the Australian Light Horse in 1917 on 7 December 1917 which was 24 Chislev according to the Temple Calendar as prophesied by Haggai.

24 Chislev, according to Hillel, was 9 December and so the 20th century Jews have rearranged the record of activities there (cf. Wikipedia) to concentrate on the British Garrison that took position on that date (to falsely support Hillel) after the city had been taken on the 7th December by the ALH in accordance with prophecy under the Temple calendar both in Haggai and Habakkuk above.

Chapter 6 notes that Darius (it was Darius the Mede) set Daniel as one of the three presidents to whom the Satraps would report. That was later increased to 127 in total.  Subsequently, Daniel was proposed to be established as head of the kingdom over Satraps and presidents and so they sought to destroy him. They established a law so that under the law of the Medes and Persians if the king were to pass that law not even he could undo or break it. They lied claiming that all the presidents and Satraps agreed as they obviously did not even tell Daniel, let alone consult with him. Thus his praying publicly to God three times a day would break the law and force him to be thrown in the lion’s den.

The king was forced to comply and order him to be thrown into the den. An angel of God appeared in the den and saved Daniel.  As a result all those who conspired against Daniel were themselves, with their families, destroyed in the den as they had sought to kill Daniel. This was established as the standard punishment for those who sought to kill a prophet of God and will be carried out in the Last Days under the Witnesses (cf. No. 141D)).

So also God was declared the supreme deity and to be acknowledged to be to the end (6:26).  It was He that delivers and rescues and works signs and wonders both in heaven and on earth (v. 27).

Chapter 7 speaks of the Four Beasts that constituted the successive powers of the nations and last Beast that tore down the nations and was judged by the court before the Ancient of Days.

The son of man was presented and then given authority over all peoples and nations and that authority was given to the loyal servants of the Messiah and the Body of Christ and power was transferred to the Seventy and their people (Lk. 10:1,17).  This was the last transfer of power of the Seventy plus two; the first being the sons of God to the elders of Israel at Sinai, from the sons of God as per Deuteronomy 32 (Not the MT and KJV cf. RSV, LXX and DSS (in v. 8)), to the Sanhedrin at Exodus (Num. 11:16ff.).

The fourth Beast shall seek to destroy the elect and he shall wear out the saints of the Most High but they will be given the kingdom and dominion under the whole heaven and all dominions shall serve them (6:24-27). This is the final power arising from the final or Sixth Empire of Ten Toes and which will devour the whole earth. He will again seek to change times and the law, as did the Fifth Empire of the Feet of iron and miry clay, or Holy Roman Empire before it.

The Messiah declared the Acceptable Year of the Lord in 27 CE and then established the Church of God, which was built on the Patriarchs and the Prophets before them (cf. Establishment of The Church under the Seventy (No. 122D)).

This sequence was to last until it took over the entire world in the last Sabbath Cycle of the 120th Jubilee at the Return of the Messiah and the First Resurrection of the Dead (No. 143A).

They also introduced Saints’ Days to the pseudo-Christian Church.

The second false system of Hadithic Islam was moved into Mecca from Becca ca. 699 CE and established there after the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs and the Abbasid revolution (cf. Becca and the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs (Q001D)).

In Chapter 8 Daniel is given a vision of the second Transfer of power from the Medo-Persians to the Greeks. This Empire determined the time of the desecration of the Temple after the Greeks had been divided and became the Empires of North as the Kings of the North under the Seleucids and the Kings of the South ruling Egypt under the Ptolemies.

The prophecy of two thousand three hundred evenings and mornings (v. 14) commences with the Greek victory at the Battle of the Granicus River (334) and ends with the sanctuary being restored to its rightful state.  Exactly 2300 years from the Battle of the Granicus River sees the year 1967. This was the year of the Arab–Israeli Six Day War and the Temple Mount was restored to the State of Israel as a result of their victory in the war. The sequence is explained in the Commentary on Daniel Chapter 8.

In Chapter 9 Daniel sees that according to Jeremiah there were so many years left for the desolation of Israel, in total seventy years. He then turned to God in prayer and fasting in sackcloth and confessed the sins of Israel. He confessed that all Israel had sinned against God and the Law of God which is key to retaining the protection of God.

After he had made supplication, the Angel Gabriel was sent at the Evening Sacrifice to speak to Daniel.  Daniel then gave the prophecy of the Seventy Weeks of Years that was to end with the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE at Jerusalem and the closure of the Temple at Heliopolis in Egypt the same year by order of Vespasian. The Temple was constructed by Onias IV ca 160 BCE in accordance with the prophecy in Isaiah 19:19. The Spiritual Temple of the church had removed to Pella after the martyrdom of James in 63/4 CE at the end of the 69 weeks of years. This prophecy was to be understood from the time it was given and so the church knew and understood that they had to flee Jerusalem and its environs and they went to Pella for protection, as it had requested a Roman Garrison.

Chapter 10 is actually a prologue to the prophecies of the transfer to the Roman system and the conflicts of the kings of the North and South and how Rome was to become the king of the North in Chapter 11.

Chapter 12 deals with the Return of the Messiah and the Resurrections of the Dead both the First Resurrection (No. 143A) and the Second Resurrection and Great White Throne Judgment (No. 143B) at the end of the Millennium. (cf. Rev. Ch. 20).

The Wars of the End in these last days are examined in the sequence:

Wars of the End Part I: Wars of Amalek (No. 141C);

Wars of the End Part II: 1260 Days of the Witnesses (No. 141D);
